DUBLIN, IRELAND — An inebriated man was restrained last month, and subsequently arrested, after he attempted to open the cabin door of an airplane in flight. The man said he thought the door led to the toilet.
The incident occurred on a Ryanair flight from Krakow, Poland, to Dublin, Ireland. The man said he had never flown before, and he drank several vodkas and beers to calm his nerves.
He managed to disengage the door handle, but flight attendants stopped him and quickly ushered him back to his seat. The man was fined in a Dublin court for being intoxicated on an aircraft.
According to experts, opening the door of an aircraft in flight would be catastrophic; however, the door is held in place by interior air pressure, and opening it at cruising altitude is virtually impossible.
ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA — Three teens were charged with attempted burglary after authorities say they tried to open the door of a parked car while two undercover police detectives were inside.
The detectives were watching the area because they received reports that would-be burglars were checking parked cars for unlocked doors.
The teens, a 14-year-old boy and girls ages 13 and 15, were arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools and burglary on a vehicle.
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA — A California man was arrested on burglary charges after he returned to an El Pollo Loco fast-food restaurant for lunch just hours after he allegedly burglarized it.
Workers recognized Daniel Lee Warn from security camera footage of the burglary. Warn was wearing the same clothes and cap shown in security footage. While Warn waited in line, police were called to come arrest him.
Warn recently was sentenced to two years in prison on unrelated charges, but he was free and under limited supervision while awaiting incarceration.
